Recently, the Kombat Arts Training Academy helped support the 33rd Annual Golf Tournament hosted by Peel Regional Police Association and Peel Regional Police Athletic Association.  The event was a great success and proceeds from this event went to the Special Olympics and the PRP-AA.

Congrats to our Muay Thai Fighters

Marc Mendoza and Paulo Dultra trained very hard for the 1st CASK Provincial Thai boxing Championships.  Marc won his division by walk over; unfortunately his opponent was not able to compete and Paulo earned the Silver, losing a very close split decision to Jermaine Haughton from Point Blank.  Great work guys, now we train for the Nationals!

Congratulations to Frank Marques

Let’s congratulate our coach Frank Marques for being on the show and winning Keys to the VIP. Great job Frank and way to slay the competition!

Seasons Beatings News

Congrats to Lee for winning his bout at “Season’s Beatings” Thai boxing match held by Point Blank in Aurora.  Lee was really challenged as he stepped up to a more experienced athlete and had to show his ability to adapt to a game opponent.  Noel Garcia was supposed to compete also, but unfortunately his opponent did not make weight; but we all applaud all of the hard work that Noel put in.  Great work guys, we look forward to more adventures in 2008!

Joey acquires new title

Congratulations to our very own Joey de Los Reyes as he has now filled in the position as Co-Director of Competitions for the Thai Boxing Committee of the Council of Amateur Kickboxing (CASK).  Joey is very honored to be asked to fill in this position and will do his best to further the goals of CASK and the Thai boxing athletes of Ontario.

Kombat Boxing Representing Canada

Congratulations to Mohammed Feroze Abedeen and Andrew for their win in the Scotland vs Canada Boxing 2007 Tournament. Thanks for representing the Kombat Arts and Canada!

Mohammed on a Tear Once Again

Congratulations to Mohammed Feroze Abedeen for his placement in the Ringside World Champion Tournament.  Mo won the quarter finals with a win over an athlete from Puerto Rico, than he won the semi finals with a win over an athlete from the United States.  Mo was on his way to a gold medal win, but unfortunately during the final bout, the referee stepped on Mo’s foot, spraining his ankle and unfortunately forcing Mo to forfeit the bout.  Mo came home with a silver medal, but we know full well that he deserved a gold win.

Kombat at Siam

Congrats to Chris Salvatore and Noel Garcia for competing in the CASK sanctioned Thai boxing bout hosted by our friends from Siam #1.  Both of them represented the Kombat Arts very well and we look forward to them competing again in the near future.

Animal Services

Joey de Los Reyes recently held a 2 day self defense course specifically for the Animal Services of the City of Mississauga.  Topics included use of force, awareness development skills, how to identify pre-attack indicators, physiological effects of combat on the body, how to defend against the common “sucker” punch, escaping common holds and grabs, an introduction to basic groundfighting and an introduction to basic edged weapon defense.  The program was very well received and hopefully we will see these officers training at our academy.  For more information on self defense and law enforcement training, please call Joey at 416.517.4440.

Kombat Arts was recently a host for the Harold M. Brathwaite Secondary School for their field trip and first journey into mixed martial arts.  The kids had a great time and there was definitely a lot of potential for future champions!  Thanks to Hector and Nick for coordinating this event.

Mayhem in May

May 12 we hosted Mayhem in May, a boxing show that consisted of 14 bouts. The place was packed with fans and supporters. Participating clubs came from all over, including Waterloo, Brampton, Kitchener and Niagara Falls. The Kombat Arts Boxing Team did very well winning 4 bouts out of 5!

  • Lisette Gonzales opened up the night's events with a good match, but unfortunately lost the decision in her bout.
  • Jackie Jachna came out pressing the action to win her bout by unanimous decision.
  • Lexton Bates delivered some precise hard shots on his bout to effectively win his match by stoppage in the 1st round!
  • Stephen Zea at the age of 17 dropped his Senior opponent early in the 1st round and proceeded to chop at his opponent with punches, however his opponent was more than game and would not be put down easily. Zea was proving to be too much and won the bout via decision and earned one of the awards for the Fight of the Night.
  • Mohammed Abedeen fought an exciting fight against a difficult lanky southpaw. Mo demonstrated great footwork, good clinch skills and after picking his opponent apart and landing some hard body shots, Mo stopped his opponent in the 2nd round and also winning an award for the Fight of the Night.

Thanks goes out to all of the supporting gyms, their coaches, the many supporters, our financial contributors, our athletes and coaches and finally the Kombat family for helping make this a great event! Pictures here.

RAVEN Seminar Review

Linda de Los Reyes held another RAVEN female self defense seminar on May 6. This seminar covered such areas as verbal skills, awareness, mind setting against an attack, strikes, dealing with common holds and groundfighting. Remember, the best time to take a self defense course is before something happens to you! Click on this link to read an interesting article on child safety.

Back by popular demand: Mehdi

On April 28 and 29, Muay Thai champion Mehdi Pouroskoui from the KB-1 gym, was on hand to teach a fun filled informative 2 day seminar on Thai boxing. Day 1 involved pad work, usually for 20 minute intervals! Day 2 involved crossfighting; padding up with shin pads and gloves and exchanging combinations back and forth. Both days lasted 3 hours, with constant activity and barely any breaks. Thanks Mehdi for a great seminar and a great workout . We look forward to your return later this year. Pics here.

The Matt Lindland seminar held on March 10th and 11th was a great seminar.  Matt had some really good clinch and takedown drills for day 1 and on  the 2nd day he had some refreshing new ideas of ground and pound from various positions, sweeps and his popular “slam” choke.  We look forward to training with Matt again in the near future and we wish him good luck in his upcoming fight with Fedor Emelianenko. Click here for pics.
