Description
The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)class is a complete program covering the broad spectrum of kicking, boxing, clinch, takedowns, grappling/groundfighting and skill/attribute training drills for a complete mixed martial artist enthusiast and/or competitor. This class derives it’s striking from Thai boxing, savate and boxing. The clinch is a combination of Thai boxing, “dirty boxing” and Greco Roman wrestling. Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling make up the takedown portion of this class. The groundfighting is a combination of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Combat Submission Wrestling (CSW was developed by Sensei Erik Paulson, the former Light Heavyweight World Shooto Champion).
History
MMA is probably the oldest sports in the world. In ancient Greek times it was referred to as Pankration. Then a man by the name of Bruce Lee came along and established a philosophy that was based around taking the effective elements of all martial arts and sports and integrating them into a system that was the most effective for the user. MMA has found new life in the modern era through organizations such as the UFC and is now the fastest growing sport in the world.
Class Format
Students will learn a mixture of striking, grappling, takedowns and submissions.
Attire
Shorts, t-shirt/rashguard. If sparring is involved additional equipment such as 14/16 oz gloves, shin pads, head gear, groin protection, vale tudo gloves and a mouthguard are recommended.
