The penultimate WEC event was solid. Demetrious Johnson def. Damacio Page via submission (mounted guillotine), round 3 After a back-and-forth first round, Johnson was all over Page until finally sinking the sub. Joseph Benavidez def. Wagnney Fabiano via submission (guillotine), round 2 In the second round, Fabiano payed the cost for a weak takedown attempt. Benavidez went for the guillotine like three times, and got what he wanted -- and it's not like jiu-jitsu champ Fabiano is a slouch on the ground or anything. Impressive. Erik Koch def. Francisco Rivera via knockout (head kick/punches), round 1 Koch was HUNTING for that head kick, missed it a couple of times, but eventually nailed it. Wow. $10, 000 for Knockout of the Night. Chad Mendes def. Javier Vazquez via unanimous decision Round one, Mendes had to battle against Vazquez's offensive guard. (Some slamming occured, which is always fun to see.)  Second frame was a bit similar, but Mendes was much more effective. He definitely sealed it by dominating the final round, tagging Vazquez with some nice punches, scoring some takedowns, and working the ground and pound. Vazquez didn't look pretty. Mendes is 9-0. Urijah Faber def. Takeya Mizugaki via submission (rear naked choke), round 1 Mizugaki didn't tap and let his lights go out instead. Ref stopped the bout and there you go; Faber makes good on his bantamweight debut, and ends his illustrious WEC career in the win column. UFC here he comes. $10, 000 for Submission of the Night -- which Bloody Elbow reports Faber shared with teammate Benavidez (who also won with an impressive submission). It's good to have generous friends! Fight of the Night went to Cub Swanson vs. Mackens Semerzier, which was on the untelevised undercard. MMA Mania reports Swanson won by decision, and calls the fight a "thrilling, back-and-forth war of attrition." Only one more WEC event left to go before everyone is absorbed by the UFC. (photo via)
