UFC on FOX 1: Junior dos Santos claims heavyweight belt on network TV

Junior dos Santos burst into tears after taking Cain Velasquez's heavyweight belt in just over sixty seconds. After months of hype leading up to the championship tilt -- the only fight from last night's card to air on FOX's broadcast -- it was perhaps anticlimactic. But while new casual fans didn't get to see the breadth of mixed martial arts, they did get to experience its exciting unpredictability. Either way, it was a stunning moment for dos Santos, who clipped and dropped the previously undefeated Velasquez with a right hand and then followed up with ground and pound blows that Velasquez was unable to answer. The new champ's emotional outpouring in the Octagon was endearing and honest, and it was the perfect cap to an historic night for the UFC and the sport of MMA. The fight of the night belonged to lightweight contenders Ben Henderson and Clay Guida, who put on a whirling three-round display of grit, wrestling, determination and...hair. Lots of hair. The fight wasn't televised, which is unfortunate because it was a barn-burner with title ramifications and is probably a candidate for fight of the year. Henderson's takedown defense and proficiency in the scramble proved to be the deciding factor; he largely nullified a relentless Guida and rightfully took the judges' scorecards.
