Security and Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO) members are invited to the Kombat Arts Training Academy's latest workshop, Intro to Handcuffing. What: SLEO Workshop - "Intro to Handcuffing" When: Thursday, August 9 8 p.m. to approximately 10 p.m. Cost: Free for Kombat Arts SLEO members This course was specifically developed for the security person and is not a law enforcement course modified (or worse, simply used as is) for the security profession. It will teach you advanced handcuffing techniques, not to be confused with academy handcuffing. The participant will learn how to handcuff compliant and non-compliant subjects, and violent ones as well. Topics include but are not limited to:

Calvin M. Millar, CHPA

Calvin has been developing and delivering training programs for more than 15 years. He is the former Provincial Director for the American Women’s Self Defense Association, a Chartered Member of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, a Senior Member and Vice Chair of the Ontario Chapter of the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety and a Member of the American Society of Industrial Security. He is an instructor at the Kombat Arts Training Academy in Mississauga and alumni instructor of the Modern Warrior® Defensive Tactics Institute on Long Island, New York. He has been appointed and certified as a Master Instructor in the H.E.L.P. (High Impact Low Profile) baton system. Currently working as a security director for Canada’s largest community hospital Calvin possesses over 16 years experience as a security professional, private investigator and security consultant. He has taught and delivered programs nationally and internationally for individual corporations, government agencies, professional conferences and events. Calvin was selected as a subject matter expert to participate in committee and provide input and recommendations to the Ministry of Corrections and Community Safety in the basic training requirements for security professionals. In 2008 Calvin resigned his membership with the College of Nurses of Ontario after 10 years as a Registered Practical Nurse with specialized training from St. Lawrence College in Psychiatric Nursing for the RPN to focus on security management and training.

Wesley Quaife

Wesley has been working in the security and law enforcement industry for almost 20 years. He is a graduate of Sheridan Colleges Law and Security Administration, Policed Education and Police Studies program, a member of the International Law Enforcement Educators & Trainers Association and has been teaching self defence and defensive tactics since 1996. During this time his training has been adapting and expanding to meet the current needs and trends facing the industry. Wesley is a Special Constable with a Provincial Police Service, working with their Security Bureau. He brings additional experience from healthcare security, security management and years of teaching and developing training programs. Wesley has instructorships through Taser International (X26, X3 and XREP), Medal-Tec (Medal-Tec 1400), Transport Canada, IDT, PPCT Management Inc., American Women’s Self Defence Association and Modern Warrior Defensive Tactics Institute. Verizon FiOS TV recently interviewed him on the topic of self-defence in Long Island, New York. He has taught at colleges and universities, government agencies, healthcare security departments and corporations.
