Saturday, October the 12, 2013 was definitely a great day! Taught some awesome private lessons and Muay Thai class, did a Muay Thai grading and had an informal Thanksgiving lunch with a few of the staff and friends of Kombat Arts. But the highlight for sure was seeing my good friend and instructor Amir Yafawi receive his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Dan Moroney from the Bravado Jiu-Jitsu Academy! It was great to see a lot of Kombat students, and other students, friends and some of Amir's peers from other schools in attendance. I was also very happy to see Professor Syl Moroney (who gave me my first belt in BJJ!) who came from Montreal to be at the event. A Black Belt is not only technically sound for that level, but to me also shows integrity, honor, a white belt mentality when it comes to always learning and toughness that goes beyond the mat. The Black Belt is also a martial artist off the mat. I know that Amir definitely shows these characteristics. They say that achieving the Black Belt is only the start of the journey...if that is so, I and so many at the Kombat Arts wish you the best in all of your future endeavors and we have full confidence that you will represent your new level very well. Congrats Amir! Here are A LOT of piks from the event that day. Thank you Jason Jadoonan and Jacques Malillin for taking the time to take these great piks!
