Apparently there is a new game that is possibly beginning to catch on in North America. It is called the Knock Out Game. Take a look at this video: https://youtu.be/qF9lV319yg4 In this video Rener Gracie and Eve Torres breakdown some tactics on how to deal with this situation: https://youtu.be/zkUZw0ckM9o If you are interested in self defense (since there seems to be some attention on this Knockout Game), here are my thoughts on how to supplement your training for it. If trained properly (athletically, tested against resisting opponents, adaptable to different ranges, environments etc) any martial can be effective for self defense. But regardless, no martial art will save you if you do not have situational awareness, and as one of my students pointed out, trust your gut instinct (thanks Mark Medeiros!) So check out Cooper's Color Code For Readiness. I don't know if this is obsolete, but when I was heavily training a lot of law enforcement officers, I used to use this model, and similar variations. I'm sure there may be some updated models, but I am sure you will get the idea. Also check out Gavin de Becker's book The Gift of Fear and Other Survival Signals that Protect Us From Violence This is an excellent book on how we have repressed our gut instinct, and how we need to learn how to trust it.
