plant basedIn a previous article on the Alkaline Diet, I mentioned that I would discuss plant based diets. Even though I am not a vegan or vegetarian, I think that there is a a lot of great reasons to follow a plant based diet. Precision Nutrition does a great job of describing all of these definitions, what are the reasons to follow this type of diet, and what to watch for in the way of nutritional deficiencies. Here is the article, All About Plant Based Diets If you are pressed for time, here are 2 ways that I make sure I consume enough vegetables. My first choose is my trusty Nutri Bullet. This blender was introduced to me by a few of our instructors, and it is my favorite way to consume vegetables when I am in a rush. They also have this really great book with a TON of great recipes. I have mixed kale, spinach, all types of fruits, walnuts, goji berries, maca, fish oil, hemp seeds, chia seeds, in various powerful shakes. Definitely a great way to start the day. If I am really pressed for time I use a type of Greens powder supplement. It is really ideal to get your nutrition from whole foods, but if you are in crunch, this can help. Currently I am using this brand, referred by one of my coaches, Gaetan Boutin from Strong Athlete: photo(4) I definitely believe that you need to consume vegetables with EVERY meal. I have found that it has definitely helped me in my performance and in achieving my goals.
