Shoulder Stretches for the Martial Artist
[sd_video id="uuaJbxl9PWA" type="youtube"]The shoulder is a complicated and unique joint; and it takes A LOT of abuse in the martial arts. Punching, blocking, trapping, grappling, holding pads and weight lifting all takes it's toll on this joint.
If you want to have any longevity in this sport you need to have flexibility and mobility in the shoulder and you need to strengthen it.
Here is a short video of Lisette Gonzales, our Yoga instructor demonstrating some very simple and effective stretches for the shoulder. These stretches should be done a the end of your workout, and each one should be held for approximately 2 minutes. Take this opportunity to work on your breathing, and relieve any discomfort by breathing into the stretch.
