What Is Mobility and Why Do You Need It?

Imagine buying a car and never giving it an oil change. Or even worse, when you think the mechanic is giving it an oil change, he actually does nothing. You would never know, until one day your car suddenly has serious problems. This same concept can be applied to the human body. It is all too common that we think eating healthy and exercising regularly is all the maintenance our bodies need. Every kind of machinery needs regular maintenance, and our bodies are no different. We are advanced, evolving machines that need particular maintenance to sustain function and performance. mobility Mobility and stability are two core components of function and performance. They are core components of everyday tasks; walking up stairs, reaching for something, using the vacuum, etc. Every human body relies on proper mobility and stability. The joints in our bodies are aligned in a stable and mobile pattern: the lumbar spine is stable, the pelvis is mobile, the scapulothoracic joint needs to be stable, etc. Our bodies MUST have these parts correctly functioning to create well balanced mobility. When something is unbalanced, either too mobile or too stable in the wrong spots, this leads to injuries, compensated movements, and performance loss. Often we don’t realize these things are misaligned, or realize that anything is wrong, until it is too late and we have an injury or problem. Have you ever performed an exercise and couldn't execute it correctly? Or, it was painful to have correct form or full range of motion? Or perhaps it was only painful at one certain angle, for a split second. These are all signs of restricted mobility. For example, many athletes struggle to achieve a good bottom position in squats. This position is only needed for a split second while performing squats, however it is imperative that it is performed correctly. It is these details that a mobility class and instructor will address, and over time, you will see strength and agility results in all your activities. A mobility class can identify restrictions in your movements that you didn't know you had. Your instructor will be able to predict, prioritize, and resolve inefficiencies in your body’s performance. Mobility exercises restore proper functionality, so you can move without restriction, and are the most effective in resolving pain, preventing injury and optimizing performance. Please come in and try out our Mobility Class, Wednesdays at 7:30 pm, with Oskar Gut of The Human Vitality Project.   For a FREE 14 Day Trial , please fill out this form.
