Training At Home While Quarantined

Hey Kombat Martial Arts Academy! With the Coronavirus taking us off the mats for an extended period, we just wanted to touch base with everyone. At this time it is vital that we come together and support each other during this hard time. This article "Training At Home While Quarantined" is an overview on how you can train and have some success at home!

We aren’t going to see you guys for a bit, but as you probably saw in our newsletter, we have implemented online training!

Everyday we are going to have live workouts you can watch on your phones or computers. There’s going to be over 20 classes a week to participate in and stay in shape!

To get access all you need is a FB account, like our page, and message us.

To go along with our online training, we made this list of things you can do to train at home while quarantined.

Last week BJJ coach and head of the Danaher Death Squad John Danaher made a video of tips to help people train during the quarantine.

What to Do When You Can't Train Jiu Jitsu

In the video, he lists three important things you must do when you’re faced with an extended period off the mat.

  1. Drill Movements
  2. Stay In Shape
  3. Knowledges Acquisition (Study Techniques)

Each of these things are very important to do during your time off the mat. If you have equipment at home like a heavy bag, weights, or grappling dummy that’s great!

But if you, don’t look below at these ways to train while quarantined.

Solo Drills

Training At Home While Quarantined

You don’t want to lose your muscle memory during this off time. Do these solo drills to keep sharp.

  • Shadow Boxing: For our students in striking class (Boxing, Muay Thai, Savate, Kali, Jeet Kune Do and Krav Maga), you need to keep shadow boxing while at home. Methodically going through your techniques while visualizing an opponent is something you should already be doing. This will help keep your muscle memory sharp, as well as help your cardio.
  • BJJ/Wrestling Solo Drills: For our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and wrestling students, you will also need to be doing solo drills to stay sharp. If you have space in your home go over the same movements like we do in class. Rolls, level changes, sit-outs, sprawls, etc.

Stretching

You don’t want to lose your flexibility during this off period, so remember to stretch everyday. Go through the stretches like we do in class and work on your less flexible parts to build up strength. Yoga is also a great option, so do a little research and do what works for you.

Bodyweight Exercises

Staying in shape is very important right now and it could take weeks to get back in shape when you get back to the academy. Here is a list of bodyweight exercises you can start doing that don’t require a lot of space.

  • Push Ups
  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Ab Exercises
  • Burpees
  • Wall Sits
  • Bridges

The list is nearly endless, but these are just a few things you can do to stay in shape if you don’t have access to equipment.

Study Technique

With the free time you have now, you can take the opportunity to study technique. If you can’t train your body, you should be training your mind.

There are endless technique videos for you to look through on YouTube. Look through some techniques to get the finer points you may be missing and then practice them.

These are just a few things to do while you are quarantined. Do training and exercises that benefit you to keep in shape and stay motivated.

Watch Our Live Workouts!
