The competitive mats have been busy at Kombat Arts Training Academy, and we have more incredible news to celebrate. At the 2026 Ontario Open, two of our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitors — Coach Rushane and Hassan — both stepped up, tested their skills against some of the best grapplers in the province, and brought home Silver medals. This is a proud moment for the entire Kombat Arts family, and a powerful reflection of what is being built in our BJJ program every single day. The Ontario Open is one of the most competitive Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments in the province, drawing top-level grapplers from across Ontario and beyond. Earning a podium finish here is no small achievement — it takes months of consistent training, technical refinement, and the mental toughness to perform under pressure. Coach Rushane delivered a standout performance, grinding through his bracket and earning a well-deserved Silver medal. His composure on the mat and relentless drive throughout the competition were a testament to the work he puts in every time he steps on the mats at Kombat Arts. Hassan matched that energy with his own strong showing, competing with heart and precision to claim a Silver medal of his own. To see two competitors from the same academy both reach the podium at an event of this calibre speaks volumes about the culture and quality of training here. Congratulations, Rushane and Hassan — you represented Kombat Arts with everything you had. We are proud of you both. Results like these do not happen by accident. They are built — rep by rep, round by round, correction by correction — under great coaching. Professor David Beckles has been doing an outstanding job leading the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program at Kombat Arts, and the results on the competition floor are proof of what his instruction and dedication are producing. Professor Beckles brings not just technical depth to the mat, but a genuine investment in each student's growth — from the beginner finding their first guard position to the competitor preparing for provincial tournaments. His approach develops well-rounded, confident grapplers who can perform when it counts. The Silver medals that Rushane and Hassan earned at the Ontario Open are as much his achievement as theirs. The Kombat Arts BJJ program is built for everyone — beginners who have never tied on a gi, fitness-focused students looking for full-body functional training, and competitive grapplers chasing podium finishes at tournaments across Ontario and Canada. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the most effective and widely respected martial arts in the world. Often called "the gentle art," BJJ uses leverage, technique, and positional control to allow a smaller, less athletic person to overcome a larger opponent — making it one of the most practical forms of self-defense available, and an endlessly rewarding sport to compete in. At Kombat Arts, our BJJ students train in a structured, supportive environment under Professor Beckles and our team of experienced instructors. Whether your goal is competition, self-defense, fitness, or simply learning one of the world's great martial arts — our program is designed to meet you where you are and take you further than you thought possible. If Rushane and Hassan's Silver medals have you curious about what BJJ can do for you, there has never been a better time to get started.
