Kombat Arts students were extra invested in UFC 129’s most electrifying bout. The incredible co-main event featured not only an Ontario fighter to root for, Mark Hominick, but also Team Nova Uniao’s José Aldo.
Even more than expected, both fighters put on a world class showing demonstrating great heart. Aldo showcased his champion’s spirit by successfully defending his featherweight belt for five hard rounds while also reportedly fighting off an illness and dealing with a tougher than usual weight cut, and Hominick showed his lion heart by rallying for an inspiring fifth round comeback while sporting the craziest of hematomas.*
Congrats to both fighters and also to Aldo’s trainer, the legendary Nova Uniao co-founder Andre “Dedé” Pederneiras, who visited KATA last Wednesday before UFC weekend for a fantastic gi BJJ seminar. Check out some photos from the session below.
For the full album, hit up head BJJ coach Scott Lewis’s Nova Uniao team Facebook page.
Also, here’s a cool video from Jits Magazine featuring Dedé demonstrating some techniques from the guard.
Thanks to Scott Lewis, and thanks again to Dedé. We look forward to having you back at Kombat soon.
*(Don’t worry folks, Hominick tweeted this photo and says he’s feeling fine!)
